&ldquo;Sultan Camel Race Cup&rdquo; is an annual National Camel Races Festival to encourage one of the traditional and ancient Omani sports and impress upon Oman&rsquo;s glorious history. 
This is a popular sports festival where camels compete at speeds of up to 64 kilometres per hour on tracks specially built for this kind of race. His Majesty&rsquo;s Cup for camel racing is an annual competition for the camel racing sport in Oman which shows the importance given to camel racing.

Muharram will mark the start of 1439 in the Islamic calendar. Muharram is the first month in the Islamic calendar which is a lunar calendar.

The lunar calendar is based on the cycles of the moon&rsquo;s phases. Months are usually 29 or 30 days in the lunar calendar and a year consists of 354 or 355 days in contrast to the Gregorian calendar&rsquo;s 365 or 366 days. Because the Islamic calendar is approximately 11 days shorter than the Gregorian calendar, the Islamic New Year varies in date from the perspective of the Gregorian Calendar used commonly around the world. According to that calendar, the Islamic New Year moves about 11 days per year. The exact date is never certain since each country announces it based on moon sightings, but it can generally be predicted with great accuracy. Also note that Islamic New Year begins around 6:00 PM, for the Islamic day always starts after sunset.

Isra and Mi&rsquo;raj Night marks the Prophet Muhammad&rsquo;s (PBUH) journey from Mecca to Jerusalem and ascent into heaven, sometime around the year 621, according to Islamic belief. The details come from the Quran and other teachings from the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The Night Journey starts with the appearance of the angel Gabriel who takes the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to Jerusalem on a winged horse. In Jerusalem, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) met and prayed with many prophets including Moses, Abraham, and Jesus. This part of the journey is known as 'Isra'. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was then carried by Gabriel to heaven, ascending through the seven heavenly realms until he reached paradise where he spoke to God. This second part of the journey is known as the Mi'raj, which means ladder in Arabic.
The celebrations of Isra and Mi'raj include prayers during the night and many Muslim cities will keep their lights on all night. During this festival, there will be no sale of alcohol in bars or restaurants from 6 pm on the day before until 7:00 PM on the day of the festival. Most shops will be open. Muslims mark Isra&rsquo;a Wal Mi&rsquo;raj as one of the most important Islamic histories to commemorate. That is why it is considered the day as one of the national holidays in some Muslim countries so they can take a day off to commemorate it. To celebrate it, every Muslim community has different traditions and customs for it.

In Oman, Isra&rsquo;a Wal Mi&rsquo;raj is commemorated in several ways. Some Muslims celebrate it by reciting Quran verses at their home or the mosque. There would also decorate the mosque in the neighborhood with dazzling lights that help to enlighten the mood of all Muslims who celebrate it. Some of them would also come to the mosque nearby their house to gather with the other Muslims and listen to the stories about the backstory of how Isra&rsquo;a Wal Mi&rsquo;raj happened and how it became one of the most important celebrations in Islamic history.

It is also common that strangers stop people on the street to wish each other 'Eid Mubarak' and &lsquo;Khair Mubarak&rsquo;, the greeting phrases used on this occasion to wish blessing and goodness to others.</td>

Generally, Muslims are suggested to help the poor through two types of charitable contributions called 'Sadaqah' and 'Zakat Al Fitr'. The former is voluntary with no fixed amount, and the latter is mandatory on this day. Muslims offer two units of prayer called "Rakat" and they are required to pay Zakat Al Fitr at the end of Ramadan month and celebrate Eid Al-Fitr with prayers called "Salat Al Eid". There is no audible call to prayer for the Eid prayers.
